Stqarrija għall-Istampa:

Rapport tal-Caritas: Kummenti ta’ Zminijietna

“Dħul bażiku universali u t-tisħiħ tal-ftehim kollettiv jistgħu jkunu mezz biex wieħed jkollu għajxien diċenti”, stqarret dan Zminijietna – Leħen ix-Xellug.

“Huwa ta’ dispjaċir il-pożizzjoni li qed jieħdu l-partit Laburista u dak nazzjonalista li ma jappoġġjawx il-proposta tal-KE għall-paga minima adegwata madwar l-Ewropa”.

“Dana kollu qed ngħiduh fir-rigward ta’ l-aħħar rapport tal-Caritas li qed jsejjaħ għall-għajxien diċenti. Nappellaw lill-parlament Malti biex imexxi ‘l quddiem din il-kwistjoni fuq l-aġenda nazzjonali”.

“Aktar minn hekk, ir-rapport qed jipproponi reviżjoni tal-COLA. Diversi organizzazzjonijiet rappreżentati fl-MCESD diġà jaqblu fuq din”.

Barra minn hekk, Zminijietna qalet li “l-Gvern għandu jindirizza l-in-nuqqas ta’ għajxien diċenti fost il-pensjonanti. Titjib fil-benefiċċji soċjali għanda tkun it-triq ‘il quddiem. Iż-żieda fil-pensjoni minima hija pass pożittiv iżda xorta waħda mhux biżżejjed”.

“Fattur importanti ieħor li qed jiġi ttraskurat mill-Gvern hija l-kwistjoni ta’ impjiegi diċenti. Ħafna ħaddiema qed jesperjenzaw deterjorament tal-kundizzjonijiet tax-xogħol tagħhom. Leġiżlazzjoni li tinforza l-ftehim kollettiv u li ħaddiem jkun msieħeb f’unjin fuq bażi mandatorja tgħin l-unjins biex itejbu l-kundizzjonijiet tax-xogħol u d-drittijiet tal-ħaddiema”.

“Fir-rigward tal-ftehim kollettiv, il-Kummissjoni Ewropea qed tħeġġeġ ukoll lill-istati membri biex jipprovdu pjan ta’ azzjoni għall-ftehim kollettiv adegwat li jkopri għal ta’ l-inqas 70% tal-ħaddiema fis-suq tax-xogħol”.

Zminijietna kkonkludiet li “għajxien diċenti jista’ jintlaħaq biss jekk id-dħul u l-finanzi tal-Gvern jkunu sostenibbli“.

Press Statement: Caritas Report: Zminijietna’s Comments

“Universal basic income and strengthening of collective bargaining should be a means for a decent living”, stated Zminijietna – Voice of the Left

“It is deplorable that the Labour and Nationalist parties are not backing the proposal by the European Commission for an adequate minimum wage across Europe.”

With regards to the latest Caritas report, the Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna appeals parliament to push forward this matter on the national agenda.

“Added to this, the report is proposing a revision of the Cost of Living Adjustment. Various organisations represented in MCESD already agree on this”.

Furthermore, Zminijietna stated that “the Government should address social inequality amongst pensioners. Improvement in social benefits should be the way forward. The increase in minimum pension is a positive step but still not enough”.

“Another important factor that is being neglected by the Government is the question of decent jobs. Many workers are experiencing a deterioration of their working conditions. Legislation that enforces collective bargaining and unionisation will give unions better access to improve working conditions and rights”.

“With regards to collective bargaining, the European Commission is also urging member states to provide an action plan for adequate collective bargaining that minimally covers 70% of the total workforce”.

Zminijietna concluded that “adequate living income can only be managed if the Government’s income and finances are sustainable”.
